Team Leader/Resident Engineer - Programme for the Reconstruction of Regional Airports of Senegal (PRAS) Phase 1

Project Overview

The Programme for the Reconstruction of Regional Airports of Senegal (PRAS) Phase 1 is a strategic initiative by the Ministry of Air Transportation and Airport Infrastructure (MTADIA) to modernize regional aviation infrastructure in Senegal. The project focused on the airports of Saint Louis and Matam.

Roles and Responsibilities

Team Leader & Resident Engineer

  • Chief of Mission & Resident Engineer for Intairplan GmbH.
  • Led a multi-disciplinary team of civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, and topographical survey engineers.
  • Served as the Engineer under FIDIC for civil works.
  • Acted as the focal point for meetings and exchanges with the client (MTADIA).

Key Activities and Achievements

Construction Supervision & Site Engineering

  • Managed site engineering and construction supervision for works at Saint Louis and Matam airports.
  • Works Scope:
    • Pavement works for runways and taxiways.
    • Drainage systems infrastructure.
    • Foundation works.
    • Provision of precise levels and coordinates for construction.
  • Attended to and coordinated with other subcontractors on-site.

Project Management Office (PMO) Setup

  • Responsible for setting up the PMO and the Resident Engineering team for Phase 1.
  • Designed the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Recruited and managed the project management organization.

Technical Advisory

  • Supported and advised the EPC Contractor (Transcon ES) in correspondence and meetings with the client (MTADIA).
  • Chaired weekly design and project progress meetings.
  • Evaluated and certified works as per FIDIC standards.
  • Prepared the plan to close Phase 1 of the project.
