During this period, major development projects were undertaken at Banjul International Airport to modernize facilities and ensure compliance with international standards. This included a significant US$21.4 million improvement project.
Roles and Responsibilities
Manager - Airport Engineering, Planning and Projects
- Unit Leadership: Headed a 14-man unit charged with infrastructure maintenance and facility needs assessment.
- Project Management: Served as Project Manager for the US$21.4 million Airport Improvement Project (1999-2002).
- Planning: Headed the Civil Aerodrome Engineering & Planning Section (1995-1999).
- Client Representative: Acted as Client’s Representative and Engineer on all development projects, ensuring compliance with GCAA and ICAO standards.
Key Activities and Achievements
Strategic Planning
- Master Plan: Updated the Airport Master Plan to guide future growth.
- Project Development: Drafted project proposals and secured liaison with funding agencies, consultants, and contractors.
- Maintenance: Drew up comprehensive maintenance plans and budgets for airport infrastructure.
Major Infrastructure Works (1999-2002)
- Runway & Airside: Managed study, design, and supervision of runway repairs and a new ILS (Instrument Landing System).
- Landside: Oversight of road construction and other landside infrastructure.
- Logistics: Managed the Project Management Unit responsible for airport planning and logistics.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensured all legal, financial, engineering, and contractual obligations were met.
- Maintained strict adherence to ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) rules and regulations.
