Project Overview
The Bamako-Senou Airport Modernization Project was a US$183 million initiative to upgrade Mali’s primary international gateway. The project involved a comprehensive overhaul of both airside and landside facilities to meet international standards and accommodate increasing traffic.
Roles and Responsibilities
Resident Project Director
- Overall Project Management: Led the project through initiation, review, and study phases.
- Team Leadership: Oversaw a multi-disciplinary team of over 40 engineers and specialists.
- Design Coordination: Managed the coordination of preliminary and final designs for all airport components.
- Procurement Strategy: Drafted procurement and tender documents, including the prequalification of contractors.
Key Components and Achievements
Infrastructure Development
- Airside: Runways, parking aprons, and drainage systems.
- Landside: New passenger terminal building, terminal buildings, and car parks.
- Utilities: Electrical supply systems, substations, water reticulation, and solid waste systems.
- Navaids: Modernization of navigation aids and electrical systems.
Completed Milestones
- Surveys & Reviews: Completed all site surveys, invitations, and reviews of existing facilities and plans.
- Master Planning: Prepared an updated Airport Master Plan and Project Implementation Plan.
- Procurement: Designed a comprehensive Procurement Strategy and Plan.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Prepared and presented concept plans, preliminary drawings, and final drawings to stakeholders via workshops.
- Tender Readiness: Prepared all necessary tender documents for the works.
